Gent’s Stainless Steel Panerai Radiomir Black Seal strap watch. Ref. PAM00183. Automatic OP XI calibre self-winding movement. Complete with original box and papers, dated 2007. Service and refurb, 2018.
Already well established as a supplier of quality, high-tech military instruments to the Italian Royal Navy, in 1936, Officine Panerai released the first prototype of the Radiomir. It was intended for use by Italian Navy divers - or ‘frogmen’ - who were thought to look like black Seals in their rubber diving suits. The Radiomir was designed to be ultra-legible; with a large case and perforated sandwich dial accentuating bright luminous batons and numerals. Every Officine Panerai can be thought of as a ‘heritage’ piece as each contains classic elements of Panerai’s relatively unchanged, instantly recognisable design and naval history.
This gent’s Panerai Radiomir Black Seal Acciaio has a 45mm stainless steel cushion case with sapphire crystal glass and display caseback, fitted to a brown leather strap with pin-buckle. It features a black textured sandwich dial with luminous baton markers, Arabic numerals and hands, with a small seconds subdial at nine o’clock. The watch is powered by a manual-wind calibre OP XI mechanical movement, is complete with original box and papers (dated 2007) and had a full service/refurb in 2018.
