Gents’ 18ct rose gold Rolex Cellini Prince. Ref. 5442/5. Manual-wind chronometer certified, calibre 7040-2 movement. Complete with original box and paperwork, dated 2005.
The Rolex Prince was just introduced in 1928. The Prince was, and still is, notable for its distinctive rectangular Art Deco Style 44mm x 26.5mm case. It was sometimes referred to as the Doctor’s watch due to the relatively large separate sub-seconds dial which made timing respirations or pulse beats easier. The Cellini Rolex Prince is not like the typical sporty, rugged, go anywhere Rolex but is a more elegant and luxurious dress watch. It also differs in that it’s calibre 7040 movement is hand-wound rather than self-winding. The beautiful 21 jewel chronometer mechanism with 72-hour power reserve is displayed through the crystal case back – one of the many fascinating features on this timepiece.
