In 1989, Rolex unveiled the Explorer I reference 14270 as a successor to the 1016. The watch boasted improvements such as a new Calibre 3000 movement, new case, sapphire crystal and a new typeface for the 3, 6 & 9 typeface. The model offered here was one of the earliest Rolex’s to use Superluminova instead of tritium, and also features the omission of lug holes. Its understated looks are beautiful yet functional and it can be worn in any situation without looking out of place.

This gentleman’s Rolex Oyster Perpetual Explorer 1 is on a stainless steel Oyster bracelet. The 36mm case houses an automatic chronometer movement. This watch features a black dial with Superluminova markers. It is dated 1998 from its serial number.
