At the start of the 20th century wristwatches were not accurate but Hans Wilsdorf, Rolex creator, saw their potential and began fitting small Swiss movements into his wristwatches, movements which were themselves very accurate. His watches gained much acclaim from timekeeping institutes including a Class ‘A’ Precision certificate from Kew Observatory in Great Britain, which until then had only been awarded to Marine Chronometers.

This lady’s Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date has a stainless steel case with engine turned bezel and stainless steel Jubilee bracelet. The automatic chronometer, self-winding movement has a date feature which is magnified by Rolex’s iconic date bubble on the sapphire crystal. It was originally purchased in 1996 and is complete with box and papers.
