Rolex Oyster Air King

The Air-King, first making an appearance in 1945, was part of an “Air” series by Rolex introduced in the 1930’s – the golden age for aviation. During the 1930’s Rolex watches were accompanying some of the very first extreme flights, such as the Houston Expedition (the first flight over Mount Everest) and the return voyage of Owen Cathcart-Jones and Ken Waller from London to Melbourne in 1934 where record time was set using their on-board Rolex chronometer. Epitomizing Rolex’s ties with the aeronautical world the Air-King pays tribute to the first pioneers of flight. This model has however had some changes from the original, with a new larger 40mm Oyster case and a change in the appearance of the dial, is presented on a stainless steel brushed Oyster bracelet, complete with folding clasp and extension link. The Air-King however still encompasses essential Rolex aspects with a 100m water resistant case, screw down crown, and a chronometer certification.
